About MTaPS
MTaPS work enables low- and middle-income countries to strengthen their pharmaceutical systems and ensures systems are in place that allow the prescribers to prescribe the right medicines, the dispensers to dispense the correct products, and the patients know how to use the products safely and appropriately. This work is critical to saving lives because it ensures patients can access and safely and effectively use quality and affordable medical products.
Where We Work
MTaPS is a global project operating since 2019 in 18 countries across Africa and Asia, with fully staffed field offices in 13 countries. This means that safe, affordable, and reliable medical products get where they need to be. And patients understand how to use the products safely and appropriately.
How We Work
System strengthening is the foundation that allows procurements to enter a country successfully and reach the hospitals, clinics, and patients. Pharmaceutical systems intersect with everything done at the hospital level, clinic level, procurement level, and more.
Why PSS Matters
Medical products and related pharmaceutical services play a decisively large role in determining health outcomes. Access to safe and quality medicines at an affordable price and their responsible use by all populations can help countries prevent maternal and child deaths, create an AIDS-free generation, and protect their communities from infectious disease threats.
The MTaPS Experts
MTaPS staff are the technical experts in pharmaceutical systems strengthening. The project’s response to COVID-19 demonstrates how critical its work is for the full global health system and for saving lives. They apply their global expertise to each country’s health systems, so their unique challenges are addressed.
